- If on the other hand, you are targeting keywords that are highly competitive, then you will need to focus on off-page optimisation in order to rank well.
And the use of on-page optimisation will be to give you an advantage over your competitors who have not done any on-page optimisation of their web site.
The points above are a bit simplistic but give you a good overall idea of the situation. The reality is somewhat more complex as you can imagine.
