What is SEO?

SEO stands for 'search engine optimization' and refers to the process of making sure that your web site is as relevant to the theme of your web site as you can make it, from a search engine point of view.

Do I really need to worry about SEO?

It depends! If you want people to come to your web site through search engines, then 'Yes, you do!' The reason for this is that:

  • people will use a search engine to look for information, services, software, . . . on the Internet,

  • following a search, people will generally only look at the first 2 pages of results. If your web site is not listed there, then you will miss out on getting visitors/traffic to your site from the search engine,

  • search engines list in its first 2 pages of results web sites that they think are the most relevant to the search query entered.

Putting these facts together leads to the inescapable conclusion that: if you want people to find your web site through search engines, then it needs to be ranked in the first 2 pages of results by making sure that search engines consider your web site highly relevant to the search query entered.

How can I get my web site listed in the first 2 pages of results?

In order to get your web site listed in the first 2 pages of results, you will need to make sure that your web site follows the 2 types of SEO optimization: on-page optimization and off-page optimization.

  • On-Page optimization has to do with making sure that your web pages are properly optimized for search engines. This means, in part, making sure that you are targeting the right keywords with your web site and making sure that you have placed those keywords in all the right places that search engines consider important. We say 'in part' because search engines don't consider just keywords but other things as well eg. age of your domain, use of frames, use of Flash content, and so on . . .

Our SEO evaluation reports
analyses 55+ such on-page factors.

This will provide you with valuable feedback
to help you improve your search engine rankings.

  • Off-page optimization has to do primarily with the backlink condition of your web site. Backlinks are links on other web sites that link to yours. The general rule is: the more backlinks you have, the better! However, as you can expect, it is not that simple . . . especially when it comes to Google!

Our Secret SEO evaluation reports contain,
as a free bonus, all the information you will need
to conduct your very own off-page
analysis of your web site.

Learning to conduct your own backlinks analysis
is a vital skill to have as it will enable you
to monitor your backlinks with a view to
improving your rankings with search engines.

Note that once you have attended to the on-page optimization of your web site, you will need to work on your off-page optimization ie. your backlinks. And working on backlinks is something that should be done on a regular basis eg. 1-2 hours a week.

You mentioned that I need to target the right keywords with my web site, how do I know if I am doing that?

It might be fair to say that if you are asking that question then you most probably are not targeting the right keywords with your web site. The reason for this is that, in order to know which keywords you should be targeting, then you must do the appropriate keyword research. And if you have not done the appropriate research, then you will be wondering about your keywords.

We will not cover here what is involved in keyword research and finding the right keywords for one's web site as it is not something that can be covered in a simple way.

Your SEO evaluation reports analyse 55+ on-page factors, how important are these factors?

The answer to this question is not straight forward but we will do our best to answer it in a simple way. There are a few things we need to point out on the way to the answer:

  • each search engine has its own set of ranking criteria. Google is reported as having 100 points in its ranking criteria.

  • although each search engine has its own set or ranking criteria, there are overlaps over these criteria between search engines ie. there are points of criteria that all search engines will have in common.

For example, it would be fair to say that all search engines will include the title tag as one of its ranking criteria.

  • each search engine assigns different relative importance to each factor.

For example, we know that all search engines consider backlinks as important but Google is extremely fussy about the quality of those backlinks compared to MSN and Yahoo. This is the reason why it is easier to build your backlinks for MSN and Yahoo than it is for Google.

All this means that, while we know what many of the ranking criteria are, we do not know the exact details of how important each factor is. But we do know that together, all these factors are important.

The 55+ factors we analyze in our
Secret SEO evaluation reports are considered
to be the most important on-page factors.

You mentioned that you only use or support ethical SEO techniques, what does that mean?

Using or supporting only ethical SEO techniques means that we will only support SEO techniques that are of importance to search engines and that are not exploitative. Such techniques are also known as 'white-hat' SEO techniques.

The exploitative techniques are known as 'black-hat' and run the risk of getting your web site banned by search engines. Not something you want to risk!

Some examples of black-hat SEO techniques are:

  • adding text to web pages that is the same colour as your background thereby making it 'invisible',

  • hiding things on a web page like tables by using the 'hidden' attribute (an attribute that some HTML elements allow you to have),

  • repeating keywords in various sections of a web page in an un-natural way. Such places are: keywords and description meta tags, end of page, ALT tags, . . . This is called keyword stuffing,

  • adding text/tables off the dimensions of a web page so that it is not 'seen' by visitors to your site but it is picked up by search engines,

  • redirecting pages so that visitors to your web site see one page but search engines see another,

  • and so on . . .

We do not support the use of such tactics as they exploit the ranking criteria that search engines use. And while they may work for a while, search engines will soon or later discover these tactics and, as mentioned above, will ban your site from their listings.

Be aware that it does not matter whether you use these techniques deliberately or by accident, the end result is the same: banned!

dot PayPal - FAQ dot

How safe is PayPal?

Judge for yourself:

  • PayPal is a financial transaction service that has more than 40 million member accounts world wide,

  • PayPal is now owned by eBay,

  • we have been using PayPal for a number of years now and have been very happy with it.

It can therefore be concluded that PayPal has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that all online financial transactions are handled securely.

Once I have clicked on the PayPal button to place my order, how do I know that I have reached a secure page?

After clicking on the PayPal button, there are 2 things that you can check to make sure that you have indeed reached the secure PayPal page:

  • the URL should start with "https" (the 's' at the end of the 'https' means that you have reached a secure page), and

  • your browser should display a locked padlock in its status bar (usually located at the bottom of the browser).

Both of these things will indicate to you that you have indeed reached the secure PayPal page and that it is safe for you to make your payment.

The PayPal order page displays 'Cattle Ramp Software and Services' as your company name. Is that correct?

Yes it is, but only with PayPal. The reason for this is that we initially used PayPal to accept payments for software we sold online. We then decided to go into SEO work and thought of possibly expanding into other online areas. To reflect this, plus the fact that we only wanted to have the one account with PayPal, we altered our PayPal 'company name' to something that would incorporate all our online ventures. Hence the current 'Cattle Ramp Software and Services' PayPal company name.

Your PayPal email address is not what I would expect as it is an 'alphalink.com.au' email address. Should I be concerned?

Not at all. We have been using Alphalink as our ISP for a number of years and hence have an 'alphalink.com.au' email address. This address is the one we use with PayPal so as to be notified of all payments for all the online services we offer (see above question).

I don't want to use PayPal, can I place an order another way?

Absolutely! Send us an email with details of the payment method you prefer and we will see what we can do to accommodate your request.

dot Privacy - FAQ dot

Do you have a Privacy Policy?

We certainly do. We do not support spam of any sort, we never have and we never will. To that end, your order details (including your email address) will never be given away or sold to anyone and for any reason. That is a promise!

Also, we will not use your email address to send you endless promotional emails as we value your business and privacy. We may send you an occasional email, should we come across a product or service that we think may be of interest to you. Such emails will be very infrequent and will contain an unsubscribe link, should you wish not to receive any more such emails.
